The Druk Path—also known as the ‘Thunder Path’—is a 6-day high-altitude trek that largely follows an ancient mule trail. This route runs from Paro to the capital city of Thimphu, making it easy to incorporate into a broader tour itinerary. Along the way, you will be treated to panoramic views of the Thimphu and Paro Valleys, the Bhutanese Himalayas, and numerous remote mountain lakes. You will also explore various monasteries, hermitages, and small settlements inhabited by yak herders. The daily trekking distances and walking times are not excessive; however, the altitude is a significant factor that requires careful consideration—the highest pass you will traverse sits at an elevation of 4 235 meters. A professional support crew will assist you and handle all logistics, allowing you to focus solely on the trek itself. You will spend your nights in tents, and your luggage will be transported by horses; you will carry only a small daypack. The best times to undertake this trek are during the months of March to May and September to November. Be sure to also check our FAQ section for practical tips on preparing for a trek in Bhutan.
